I upgraded to this from an UglyStick Elite rod, same length and weight. Med 7 foot . I never really liked the Ugly. This rod casts and fishes so much better. Paired with a Pfleuger President XT reel. I was looking for an all purpose baitcaster and I think this fits the bill. I used it last weekend and threw a variety of cranks, spinnerbaits and jigs and it performed well with all of them. No backlashes casting like I got with the Ugly and more distance and accuracy. Fishing was generally slow and only got a couple smaller bass cold front went through , but the rod seemed sensitive and I like the fast action. The fast tip may be the reason it casts and handles so much better. The Ugly was a little too stiff-like a broomstick . Hopefully as the fall fishing heats up, I ll catch some bruisers with it. Great rod and typical St. Croix quality at a price point I was comfortable with.
